TC: How long have you been belly dancing?

SS: I began at age 7, so 10 years give or take.

TC: Why did you get into belly dancing?

SS: My mother has been doing it and I followed in her footsteps.

TC: What does your mother think of belly dancing?

SS: She says it’s diverse and unique.

TC: How long do you think you will continue belly dancing?

SS: I plan on doing it for the rest of my life.

TC: Where do you see belly dancing taking you in the future?

SS: I plan on performing at high quality performances.

TC: Is belly dancing a form of artistic expression?

SS: Yes. It is a way to tell stories and express my mood. It’s also a way to share a culture not many people know about.

TC: Where do you perform or practice?

SS: I practice at church and I perform at various festivals such as Scarborough fair.

TC: How often do you practice or perform?

SS: About 5 hours a week.

TC: Do you teach belly dancing?

SS: Yes.

TC: What are the credentials needed to belly dance?

SS: None. Anyone can do it.

TC: Why should people belly dance?

SS: It is a great workout and it is a spiritual and relaxing form of dance. It helps you to keep in touch with yourself.
