On February 1, the University Interscholastic League announced the new district alignments for the 2018-2020 sport seasons in Texas.

Most of the current district will remain in tact, with the removal of Mansfield, who has been moved to District 7 in the 6A classification. Added to Arlington’s district is Fort Worth Trimble Tech, Young Men’s Leadership Academy and Young Women’s Leadership.

As of now, it is unclear exactly which sports the two leadership schools will compete in for the 2018-2020 seasons due to their small size. However, it has been confirmed by Athletic Director Scott Peach that YMLA will not be participating in football.

Regardless of what teams will be playing in a specific sport or not, Arlington High Athletics will not change the way they practice for their competition.

Our preparation will not change from being the best we can be regardless of our schedule,” Peach said.

Coaches believe the new district is suited well for Arlington High to succeed, especially in football.

“With the absence of Mansfield, who won two back to back district championships in football, the door is open for a new champion in District 4-6A for 2018-2019. Why not us,” Peach said.

There is still a cloud of uncertainty that looms over the new district regarding the amount of competition that Arlington High will see, but taking into account how those teams performed in years past, the Colt athletic program seems to be in a good position to compete for district championships in all sports.
