New ID policy necessary evil

On January 22, Principal Jennifer Young made an announcement about the frequency of students wearing IDs. She presented a new resolution for the school. Class periods will be chosen at random to be subjected to ID lock downs, where students will not be permitted to enter the class if they do not have their ID. These violators will also be subjected to an after school detention due to their insolent discrepancy.

Similarly, the tardy lockout policy has worked exceptionally as a deterrent of tardies. The tardy lockout policy has reduced student tardies by a whopping 50% in the past five months. If we see the same amount of productive development with the ID lockout policy we will be making a safer and more obedient school environment.

Another reason it is important to wear an ID is because it will be required later in life. Almost every college requires students to carry an ID to use college facilities, and many workplaces across the world require some sort of identification to even enter the premises. It is a practice that will become essential later in life and if students can learn this in highschool then it will help them later on.

Regardless of what students may believe, there is an important reason to wearing identification at school. Students and teachers are required to wear IDs to differentiate authorized school attendants from those that are unauthorized. Unauthorized attendants can be a threat to the security of the school. Really students and teachers shouldn’t be allowed to enter the doors without a proper school ID. In light of the many recent school shootings, asking students to wear an ID is a very minimal restriction. Just do it.
