Advanced placement classes have become the norm for many high school students who want to get a jump on college credits and who want to boost their GPAs. Even with the advanced course work, many AP students are involved with extracurricular activities. The Colt sat down with Caitlin Cooke, senior, to find out how she juggles it all.

The Colt: How long have you taken honors classes?

Caitlin Cooke: Since my freshmen year.

Story continues below advertisement

TC: How difficult is it to be in honors classes?

CC: Not too bad as long as all the work is done. You have to pay attention in class. Students have to work together. AP is about being organized.

TC: What organizations are you in?

CC: Colt Kickers, choir and Key Club

TC: How hard is it to juggle time?

CC: It’s not so bad. Keeping a planner helps a lot. You have to know what’s always due and don’t procrastinate.

TC: Do you ever wish for more personal time?

CC: Yes. Yes. Yes, because I get stressed out a lot. But AP classes have the benefits and experience of college classes.

TC: Have you ever looked at your schedule and wanted to drop some classes especially the harder honors classes?

CC: Yes, but I decided to stay in the harder classes because I am goal driven. Except math. I dropped out because I have to have some limits.

TC: Are you planning to go to college? If so, where?

CC: Yes, I plan to go. At first I have to go to TCC, I don’t want to, but it saves money. But I would like to go to UNT or some other college with a good film degree.

TC: What are you majoring in? Why?

CC: Film production and editing because I have a passion for making films. I’ve always had a passions of filming and making stories.

TC: What do you want to be in the future?

CC: I dunno. A mom. Just kidding. A director or writer.

TC: Do you have a back up plan to the last question?

CC: Teacher. English teacher. Or dance teacher.

TC: Are you scared of the future?

CC: Uhm… yes. I think everyone is. You can’t plan out the future concisely no matter how hard you try to, but as long as you’ve got a good head on your shoulders and you know your limits and talents, you can seize any opportunities.
