The 2018 football season has started strong. The football players, cheerleaders and coaches are ready for this year’s season. With a record of 10-3 last season, there are extremely high hopes for this year’s Colts.

The Colts faced the Southlake Carroll Dragons, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs just last season, on August 24 during a pre-season scrimmage. Though they don’t keep an official score during scrimmages, coach David Nix said the score was “about even”.

“The scrimmage was boring, like, it was so easy,” senior S Kyree Dailey said.

Fellow safety, Kyron White, agreed with Dailey.

“We’ve made a lot of progress since the spring,” he said.

The following week, the team took on Dallas Jesuit in the first pre-season game of the year. The Colts beat Jesuit with a final score of 55-25.

“We’ve never played a lot of these teams before so I wouldn’t say I’m nervous because none of these teams make me nervous, but I don’t know how Byron Nelson and Dallas Jesuit are gonna go,” Dailey said.

Before the game, senior WR Trey Cleveland knew he needed to perform well.

“I’m a senior now so I need to lead and to step up,” he said.

Cleveland did step up in the game against Jesuit, scoring three of the seven touchdowns of the night. And though the Colts ended with a win, the game wasn’t easy.

“We got down 15-3 the first quarter, and we made awesome adjustments defensively,” head coach Scott Peach said.

The following week, the team played Byron Nelson in a back and forth battle for the win. In the end, the Colts won 37-34. With two pre-season wins, the Colts are feeling confident about the season.

“We don’t need last year’s seniors to win,” senior LB X’Zavion McDonald said.

The Colts have a week off and will then take on Mesquite Horn Friday, Sept. 21. Regular season games will start on September 28 with a Homecoming battle against Trimble Tech.
