Melodic mastery from AHS choir department

Theodore Isaac Rubin, a greater thinker of our age, espoused that “happiness is not the product of easy work, but of the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best.” This general ethos is often exemplified in students at AHS, and one Junior is particularly deserving of accolades after his recent achievement in the area tryouts for choir. Nick Kannenberg received first chair in State Choir auditions, and spoke with The Colt about the process and preparation involved in this achievement.

TC: How long have you been singing?

NK: Since Freshman year, officially, but singing is just something I’ve always done.

TC: Can you describe the procedure?
NK: The judges are behind curtains, and you sing for them, and they rate you from 1 to 100. I was rated the highest in the area.

TC: Have you ever competed in anything like this before?

NK: I competed in all city in 5th and 6th grade.

TC: What kind of practice did this take?
NK: I worked for weeks over the summer and did all state camps, outside of school I would practice between 1-3 hours a week.

TC: I know you play the drums as well, are you just musically inclined?
NK: Yeah, I would really say that I just love music!

Congratulations to Nick, and State Qualifiers representing our school in every event.
