Beginning of fall brings festivals aplenty

As the temperatures cool and the fall months approach, outdoor activities become popular. For those looking for a fun time outside this weekend there are two local festivals and a state fair.

The inaugural South Street Art Festival is a free three-day art festival that will feature 75 artists from across the country. South Street Art Festival is designed for art lovers and collectors of all ages. Pieces featured will include paintings, photography, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and jewelry.

The free festival will also include music from popular bands all three days, and shares the final weekend of the Levitt Pavilion’s free fall concert series.

The South Street Art Festival will be at 300 E. South St.

If history is more to your liking, make plans to attend the 10th Annual Front Street Festival. This day-long celebration will include living-history demonstrations, archaeological digs, schoolmarm presentations, corn husk doll making, blacksmithing and more.

There will also be live stage entertainment.

The Front Street Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 201 W. Front St. Admission is $3; free for 12 and younger.

For those looking for something bigger, the State Fair of Texas opens Friday, Sept. 27.

Since 1886, the State Fair of Texas has been a major source of entertainment for millions. The highlight of this year’s event is the return of the Fair’s iconic host Big Tex®. Big Tex will be unveiled on opening day, September 27 at 2 p.m.

The fair runs from September 27 through October 20 at Fair Park in Dallas.
