Foreign exchange student junior Amber Thakamma is spending the spring semester at AHS. After 16 years in her home country of Thailand she is finding the language the most difficult thing to learn but, she has made plenty of friends regardless since staring school here in January.
At AHS, we welcome students of many different nationalities. Many have moved permanently, but some are just here temporarily. One of them is junior Amber Thakamma, who is visiting America for the first time after living in Thailand for 16 years. The Colt got the opportunity to interview her about her experiences in the states.
The Colt: What has been the hardest part about moving to America?
Amber Thakamma: The language was scary.
TC: Where did you learn English?
AT: From English class in Thailand.
TC: How did it feel first coming to America?
AT: It was scary, but I made friends.
TC: What do you miss the most in Thailand?
AT: My family.
TC: Who all is in your host family.
AT: There’s three people: a mom, dad, and a son.
TC: What was your first impression of America?
AT: Big.
TC: When do you leave for Thailand again?
AT: In June.
TC: If you could take one thing from America back to Thailand, what would it be?
AT: My friends.
TC: What’s your favorite thing to do in America?
AT: Shopping!
TC: What made you want to come to America?
AT: It was my parents’ choice for me to come.
TC: What has been the hardest part about being in America?
AT: The language; English is hard.
